Ex-Indiana Treasurer Sentenced for Falsification

On January 8, in the U.S. Dist. Ct. for the North. Dist. of Indiana, Sandra Briggs, frmr. treasurer of the Natl. Assn. of  Letter Carriers Branch 378, was sentenced to 24 months probation, a $1000 fine, and a special assessment of $25 for creating false records.  Additionally, Briggs was ordered to pay $58.76 in restitution.  The sentence follows an investigation by the Chicago District Ofc. of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor Mgmt. Ex-President Sentenced for Embezzlement in Montana Fed. Court

On Dec. 30, 2003, in the U.S. Dist. Ct. for the Dist. of Montana, Michael LaForge, frmr. president of the Natl. Fedtn. of Fed. Employees Local 224, was sentenced to six months in a pre-release center and four years probation for embezzlement/theft of government property totaling $14,622, fraud, and false statements.  He was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $15,647.67 and to pay a fine in the amount of $200.  On Oct. 9, 2003, LaForge pled guilty to embezzlement/theft of government property after cashing union dues rebate checks totaling $14,622, and to fraud and false statements.  The guilty plea and sentence follow an investigation by the Denver District Ofc. of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor Mgmt. Former Treasurer Sentenced in NY State Court

On Dec. 16, 2003, in the Dist. Ct. for Chenango County (NY), Patricia Fletcher, frmr. treasurer of Local Lodge 1278 of the Intl. Assn. of Machinists, was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to make restitution of $3,300 for third degree grand larceny.  Fletcher pled guilty to the charge on October 14, 2003.  The guilty plea and sentence follow an investigation by the Buffalo District Ofc. of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor Mgmt. Former Secy.-Treasurer Sentenced for Embezzlement & Falsification in WY Fed. Court

On Dec. 15, 2003, in the U.S. Dist. Ct. of Wyo., Douglas W. Rodda, former Secy.-Treasurer of the Bhd. of Locomotive Engineers, Division 245, was sentenced to 3 years probation, 6 months home confinement, and was ordered to pay a penalty of $150 and a fine of $1,500.  On Oct. 10, Rodda plead guilty to a three-count information charging him with embezzling union funds totaling $26,150, and making false entries and false statements in union records.  Rodda previously made full restitution to BLE, Division 245.  The guilty plea and sentence follow an investigation by the Denver District Ofc. of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor Mgmt.
