Ex-Bookkeeper Charged with Embezzlement in Wisc. State Court

Denise Crerar pled not guilty in the Outagamie County Circ. Ct. on May 12 to union embezzlement.  Circ. judge John Des Jardins scheduled her trial to begin on Aug. 30.  Crerar is accused of embezzling $264,000 from the North. Wisc. Regional Council of Carpenters over the 3 yrs. she worked there as a bookkeeper.  She reportedly admitted to police that she wrote 12 to 15 checks to herself each month during that period. Former Bookkeeper Charged with Embezzlement in Wash. State Court

On May 7, in the Superior Ct. of Wash. for Snohomish County, a 5-count information was filed against Dorothy Weber, frmr. bookkeeper for the Northwest Sheet Metal Workers Organization Trust, charging her with first-degree theft.  Weber allegedly took over $400,000 from the fund without authorization by writing over fifty checks to herself in amounts ranging from $985 to over $5,000.  The charge follows a joint investigation by the Seattle Dist. Ofc. of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor Mgmt. Standards, the U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Ofc. of the Inspector General and the Employee Benefits Security Administration. [OLMS, 5/14/04]
