On October 19, in the U.S. Dist. Court for the West. Dist. of Virginia, James L. Power IV, former president of the Virginia Loomis Fargo Employees Union, was sentenced to a suspended six-month incarceration and placed on two years probation for one count of filing a false report and one count of failure to file reports in order to conceal his embezzlement. The sentence for each count will run concurrently. Power was ordered to attend mental health treatment, make full restitution of $7,300, pay a $50 special assessment, and complete 200 hours of community service. Frmr. Ofc. Mgr. Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement in Ky. Fed. Court
On October 18, in the U.S. Dist. Court for the West. Dist. of Kentucky, Brian Payne, former office manager of Local 1392 of the Laborers Intl. Union of N. Amer., pled guilty to embezzling $6,665 in union funds. The guilty plea follows an investigation by the Cincinnati District Office of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor Mgmt. Standards. [OLMS, 11/2/04]
Ex-Pres. Indicted for Embezzlement in Del. Fed. Court
On October 12, in the U.S. Dist. Court for the Dist. of Del., Gary Miller, the former president of United Auto Workers Local 2372, was indicted on 11 counts of embezzling union funds totaling $13,605.06.
