Convicted Ex-Union Boss Barred from Seeking New Union Office
On October 1, in the U.S. Dist. Court for the Dist. of Nebraska, the Court denied a motion filed by Leonard J. Schaefer, former secretary-treasurer of Laborers Local 1140, to reduce the thirteen-year bar on holding union office or employment under Sec. 504 of the Labor-Mgmt. Reporting & Disclosure Act. He filed the motion to reduce the thirteen-year bar less than a year before it terminates under the statute. The 13-year bar results from his guilty plea to one count of making false statements on January 7, 1992, following an investigation by the Kansas City Resident Investigator’s Office of the U.S. Ofc. of Labor-Mgmt. Standards. [OLMS, 10/27/04]
