Ex-Mass. Official Charged with Falsification

The former Business Mgr./Secy.- Treasurer of Laborer’s Local 1162 in Brockton, Massachusetts has been charged with falsifying union financial records.  U.S. Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Mark Letizi, Dist. Director, U.S. Dept. of Labor, Office of Labor-Management Standards, announced today that Joseph Calcagno, 54, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts has been charged with making false entries in the financial books and records of Local 1162 of the Laborers Intl. Union of N. America.

  

According to an Information filed in the U.S. Dist. Court for the Dist. of Mass., Calcagno prepared false and fraudulent receipts that purported to reflect some $6,305 in payments for use of a meeting hall. Although Laborers Local 1162 sometimes used the hall for meetings, there was ordinarily no charge for using it.

 

The case was investigated by Special Agents of the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Labor Management Standards.  It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul G. Levenson of Sullivan’s Public Corruption Unit. [U.S.A.O., Mass., 11/24/04]
