Secretary-Treasurer in Chicago Area Indicted for Embezzlement

On March 8, Keith H. Cook, former secretary-treasurer for United Transportation Union Local 620, was indicted in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for embezzling more than $48,000 in union funds and making a false entry in union records.  Local 620 represents employees of the Burlington Santa Fe Railway in Cicero, Illinois.  (OLMS, 3/30/07). 

 

Michigan Secretary-Treasurer Sentenced for Cover-up of Thefts

On March 22, Tammara Schultz, formerly secretary-treasurer of Communications Workers of America Local 4101, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan to two years probation, including six months home confinement, for making false entries in union records.  Last December, Schultz, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of falsifying union records in order to conceal various acts of embezzlement.  She admitted in court that during February 2003-January 2006 she engaged in acts of theft that included ATM cash withdrawals from the Bay City, Mich. union’s bank account, unauthorized personal charges on the union’s credit cards, and union checks issued to herself and a third party on her behalf.  She will be forced to make $22,499.93 in restitution to the insurance company that covered union losses.  (Saginaw News, 3/22/07; OLMS, 3/30/07). 

 

District Boss in Washington, D.C. Pleads Guilty to Thefts

On March 13, Kermit Dorsey, former regional administrator for CWA District Seven, pleaded guilty in federal court for the District of Columbia to one count of embezzlement.  Dorsey had falsely claimed $22,798.29 in expense vouchers for restaurant receipts.  He had been charged in January.  (OLMS, 3/30/07).

 

Twin Cities-Area Secretary Sentenced for Embezzlement

On March 14, Timothy Pulvermacher, former financial secretary for United Steelworkers of America Local 9444, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota to 180 days home confinement to be followed by five years supervised release.  He had pleaded guilty in November to embezzling $29,062.10 from the Plymouth, Minn.-based union.  He also will have to make restitution in that amount.  The sentencing follows an investigation by the Labor Department.  (OLMS, 3/30/07).  

 

President of Ohio Union Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

On March 15, Deborah Walters, former president of Local 11, Chapter 8330, of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, pled guilty in federal court for the Southern District of Ohio to embezzling more than $10,000 in union funds.  She had been charged last October with one count of embezzlement and five counts of falsifying union records.  Chapter 8330 represents employees of Warren Correctional Institution.  (OLMS, 3/30/07).    

 

Former Washington, D.C. Local Secretary Indicted for Thefts

On March 6, Delores Walker, ex-secretary of American Federation of Government Employees Local 476, was indicted in Superior Court of the District of Columbia on one count of fraud, one count of first-degree theft, and 18 counts of second-degree theft.  (OLMS, 3/30/07).

 

Washington State Local Boss Indicted for Embezzlement

On March 6, James Frederick Hill, former president of Fellow Associates Involved in Representation, was charged in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington with one count of embezzling $9,456 in union funds.  (OLMS, 3/30/07).
