On Thursday, May 28, prosecutors announced the indictment by a Wichita federal grand jury of Daryl Becker, formerly financial secretary of United Steelworkers Local 558, for embezzlement of union funds in an unspecified amount. Becker, 56, a resident of McPherson, allegedly committed the theft on July 2, 2005. The union also is based in McPherson. The indictment follows a Labor Department investigation.
