Pittsburgh-Area Steelworkers Secretary Sentenced

Steelworkers logoOn July 22, Donna Simpson, former secretary of United Steelworkers District 10, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania to six months in prison, six months in home detention and two years probation for embezzling $84,065.14. During June 2006 until early 2008, prosecutors argued, Simpson, a resident of McKeesport, Pa., wrote herself 82 unauthorized checks worth a combined $87,823 from a union retiree organization bank account. She was indicted last August and pleaded guilty this April. In addition to her sentence, she also will have to pay $84,065.14 in restitution. The actions follow an investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
