Upstate New York Treasurer Sentenced for Records Fraud

steelworkers-logoOn August 18, Norma Fanning, former treasurer of United Steelworkers Local 503, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service, and fined $1,000 for falsifying union records to cover fraudulent expense claims. Fanning, who pleaded guilty in April, previously had made restitution in the amount of $6,342.15. The union is in Ogdensburg, N.Y., located along the St. Lawrence River across from Canada. The sentencing follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
