On August 25, Erica Alda Perez, former secretary-bookkeeper for United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 9144, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to entering a false statement in records of the San Jose-based union. She immediately was sentenced to two years probation and 140 hours of community service, and ordered to pay a $25 special assessment. The plea and sentencing follow an investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
