Florida Steelworkers Treasurer Sentenced for Embezzlement

Steelworkers logoOn September 1, Tarris Dallas, former financial secretary-treasurer for United Steelworkers Local 9-415, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida to five years in prison and ordered to make $104,713.45 in restitution to the Fernandina Beach, Fla.-based union. She had pleaded guilty in March to one count of embezzlement of union funds in the same amount. She also will have to perform 200 hours of community service, submit to random drug testing and mental health treatment, abstain from accumulating additional credit card debt, and pay a $100 court fee. The sentencing follows a probe by the U.S. Labor Department Office of Labor-Management Standards.
