On June 1, Thomas Carrola, former secretary-treasurer of Local 1919 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania to one count of embezzling $35,057.70 in funds from the Pittsburgh-based union. He had been indicted in July 2009. The guilty plea follows a probe by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
