Michigan AFSCME Treasurer Sentenced for Record-Keeping Fraud

afscme-logoOn August 20, Brenda Bywater, former treasurer of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 100, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan to two years of probation and ordered to make restitution in the amount of $2,920.16 and pay a $25 assessment. She had pleaded guilty in March. The union is based in Pontiac, in suburban Detroit. The sentencing follows a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
