On October 4, Thomas Carrola, former financial secretary-treasurer for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1919, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the District of Western Pennsylvania to two years probation, plus six months of home confinement, for embezzling $35,057.70 in funds from the Pittsburgh union and falsifying financial records to cover up the thefts. He had been indicted in July 2009 and pleaded guilty in June of this year. The guilty plea and sentencing follow an investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
