Mark Tracy had two union credit cards. He’s no doubt wishing he was more prudent in the way he used them. Tracy, formerly secretary-treasurer of International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 533, pleaded guilty on December 6 in U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada to embezzling about $125,000 in union funds over a three-year period. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Tracy, now 65, formerly a resident of Reno and now living in Ocala, Florida, had been employed by the Reno-based Local 533 during 2006-09. During this period, alleged federal prosecutors, he used two union-issued credit cards to make unauthorized purchases. Additionally, he concealed his thefts by entering false information on Department of Labor financial reporting forms. Though the alleged total of thefts was $125,000, Tracy has disputed this figure; a final determination will be made at sentencing on March 7. The guilty plea follows a probe by DOL’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
