Ohio Steelworkers President, Vice President Plead Guilty; Sentenced

steelworkers-logoOn May 4, Stacy Sacks, formerly president of United Steelworkers Local 982, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, to embezzlement and falsification of records of the Wapakoneta-based union. Sacks had been charged in March with stealing $7,739.76 and concealing the thefts. She was ordered to serve five years probation and pay more than $18,300 in restitution. Her boyfriend, ex-Local 982 Vice President Tim Fisher, had been charged with theft of more than $6,300 in funds and things of value from the union. He pleaded guilty to embezzlement in April, and was ordered to serve five years probation and pay more than $5,600 in restitution. The guilty pleas and sentencings follow a joint investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards and Office of Inspector General.
