On May 4, Stacy Sacks, formerly president of United Steelworkers Local 982, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, to embezzlement and falsification of records of the Wapakoneta-based union. Sacks had been charged in March with stealing $7,739.76 and concealing the thefts. She was ordered to serve five years probation and pay more than $18,300 in restitution. Her boyfriend, ex-Local 982 Vice President Tim Fisher, had been charged with theft of more than $6,300 in funds and things of value from the union. He pleaded guilty to embezzlement in April, and was ordered to serve five years probation and pay more than $5,600 in restitution. The guilty pleas and sentencings follow a joint investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards and Office of Inspector General.
