Chicago Steelworkers Secretary-Treasurer Sentenced for Records Fraud

steelworkersreduced_2On June 9, Sylvester Knight, former secretary-treasurer of United Steelworkers Local 7-2154, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to three years of probation and up to 20 hours a week of community service for making false entries in records of the Chicago union to cover embezzlement. He also will have to pay the remaining $1,837 of the required restitution of $6,207. Knight was charged in January and pleaded guilty in February. The actions follow an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
