On June 17, Kim Hirschkorn, former financial secretary of Local 709 of the American Postal Workers Union, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington for embezzling an unspecified sum of money from the Bellingham local. She then was sentenced to two years probation and 90 days of electronic monitoring, and ordered to pay a special $100 assessment. Hirschkorn previously had made restitution. She had been charged last December. The actions follow an investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
