On September 14, Lanny Pauley, former secretary-treasurer of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1412, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, District of Kansas, to embezzling $20,325 from the Garden City union. Pauley, 67, a resident of Garden City, during 2002-07 wrote unauthorized union checks to himself and made unauthorized charges to his union credit card. He had been indicted in June for embezzling $6,515. Sentencing is set for November 28. The indictment and guilty plea follow a probe by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
