On August 31, Donald Kister, former president of National Postal Mail Handlers Local 307 in Detroit, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan to two years probation for embezzling $4,137.35 in union funds during August 2006-October 2007. He also will have to pay restitution in that amount plus a $100 special assessment. Kister had pleaded guilty in March. The actions follow a probe by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
