On September 6, William Wyda, former secretary-treasurer of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 253, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania to embezzling $14,081.51 from the Hazleton-based union. He then was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay a $250 fine, a $100 special assessment and $316.51 in residual unpaid restitution. Wyda pled guilty in March. The plea and sentencing follow an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
