On September 5, Victor Davis, former president of American Federation of Government Employees Local 3283, was sentenced in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas to six months of incarceration (suspended) and one year of probation, and was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $1,358.26 from the Cleveland-based union. Previous to the sentencing, a jury convicted Davis on August 7 on grand theft charges; two weeks later, on August 21, Davis pleaded guilty to theft. The local represents about 1,200 employees of the Cleveland office of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. The most recent actions, on top of the indictment of last October, follow a joint investigation by the Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.
