On September 17, Rickey Harper, former financial secretary of United Steelworkers Local 769, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas to five years of probation, the first six months of which must be spent in monitored home detention, for embezzling funds from the El Dorado, Ark. union. He also was ordered to pay full restitution in the amount of $20,853.72 and a special assessment of $100. Harper had pled guilty in February. The guilty plea and sentencing follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
