Georgia Local Steelworkers President Charged with Theft

On March 28, William Price, former president and financial secretary of United Paperworkers International Local 1762, was indicted in the Superior Court of Dougherty County (Ga.) for theft of nearly $100,000 from the Albany, Ga.-based union. Price, 46, during 2003-09 allegedly stole funds from the local, which is a United Steelworkers affiliate. Initially, Price left the city when he heard there were arrest warrants in his name. He was later arrested, and posted bond. The indictment follows a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
