On July 16, Jeffrey Beresford, former business manager and financial secretary of United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 83, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia to one year of probation and ordered to pay $4,507 in restitution and a $25 special assessment for falsifying records of the Wheeling-based local in connection with theft. Two days later, he paid full restitution. Beresford had pled guilty in April. The actions follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
