SMART Transportation Secretary-Treasurer in Mississippi Sentenced

smart-logoOn August 26, James Adams, former secretary-treasurer of the Transportation Division of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation (formerly the United Transportation Union) Local 427, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi to five years of probation for making false statements in records of the Byram, Miss.-based union in connection with his embezzlement of more than $45,000.  He also was ordered to pay full restitution and perform 124 hours of community service.  Adams had pleaded guilty in March after being indicted last October.  The actions follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
