On February 22, Aaron Contreras, former secretary-treasurer of Communications Workers of America Local 84749, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio to 16 months in prison and three years of supervised release for embezzling $42,700 from the Fostoria, Ohio union. He also was ordered to pay full restitution. Contreras had pleaded guilty in October after being charged in September. The actions follow a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards and the Fostoria Police Department.
