It took more than eight years to discover that Brenda Walters was making off with the money. That’s better late than never. On March 24, Walters, former secretary-treasurer of American Postal Workers Union, Muskogee Area Local 7, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma to one count of embezzling about $95,100 from the Muskogee union. According to prosecutors, Walters, now 60, a resident of nearby Haskell, during the period January 2012-July 2020 or thereabouts, had converted union funds to her personal use without authorization. She faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The plea follows an investigation by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
